(J + 86) Hawke's Bay + Bungee

Big departure this Saturday because we were 4! Indeed, my French friend Flavie (from Paris don’t blame her) and our mate Alex came with us. We first drove until Mokai canyon (approximately 300km south of Hamilton) to bungee!! It was an 80m high jump over the canyons and a river which flows in between.

What a feeling!!! Unbelievable and unforgettable!! We enjoy it so much that we wanted to do another one from the bridge of Auckland (if money falls from the sky). Then we drove to Napier and had two options: either crossing the biggest national park of New Zealand on a 160km road of which 30km is gravel road or make a huge detour of 400km.Obviously we chose the first option. We drove happily on the unsealed road when a tire punctured… in a middle of nowhere… 70km from the nearest human being. We had a spare tire but no tools to change it (I broke the spanner unscrewing the nuts…f***** cheap tools). Fortunately a car passes by us 15mn after our breakdown. After this hitch I drove at 20km/h until the end of the gravel road and we finally reach Napier at 7h30pm. We swam and play rugby before took a shower in the backpacker. Then we ate and celebrated our trip as you might expect!

On Sunday we swam in Cape kidnapper and tasted some Hawke’s Bay’s wines. I changed my mind to initially buy some because I found the wine bad or not tasteful. Finally we went back to Hamilton to conclude our 900km trip!

Cette fois ci on etait 4. Il y avait Flavie et notre colloc Alex qui nous ont rejoint pour le weekend à Napier. Mais avant, on a fait un grand detour à Mokai Canyon près de Taihape pour faire le "bungee jumoing". Enfin, un vrai sport extrème. La defi contre la gravité, chute libre dans le canyon à 80m de profondeur. C'est énorme!

Ensuite on a repris la route à graviers pour rejoindre Napier. Mais en route, pas de bol. On a crevé un pneu et devinez... nous n'avions pas des outils pour le changer!!! Heureusement après un quart d'heure d'attente une voiture a passé et nous l'avons stoppé pour demander s'il avait ce qu'il fallait. Eh ben, sinon on aurait passé la nuit au milieu de nulle part avec la ville la plus proche à un peu près 70km.

Problème résolu, et on est arrivé à Napier. Un bon burger fuel (la marque d'un resto burger) et la soirée sympathique pour terminé la journée... à 5.30 du matin :@

Hawkes Bay 22-23 Nov

Le dimanche on est parti au Cape Kidnappers (peut être!) et rester sur la plage pendant quelques heures. Après une bonne sieste on a déguster le vin dans un vignoble. Hawkes Bay est une région connue pour les vins. On avait temps d'ne faire seulement un vignoble et devait partir pour rentrer à Hamilton.

(J + 86) Pirongia's Revenge and Alex's Birthday

We’ve planned to eat a traditional meal with Narni’s family on Sunday so we’ve had to stay in Hamilton this weekend. This meal is called “hangi” and its cook in the earth. Unfortunately, Narni’s dad’s friend passed away on Saturday and so the meal was canceled.

On Saturday we wanted to attain the summit of Pirongia Mountain, the one we didn’t manage to reach the last time because we took the wrong way! So we planned to admire the view from the top on this day. Weather was pretty good and we walked fast, after only 1h30 we arrived at 959m above sea level!

A huge cloud accompanied us during our stay at the highest point of Pirongia. Then we went back to the parking, after taking a long break at Ruapane Lookout to enjoy a peaceful and good moment looking at the landscape. Then we came back to Hamilton to celebrate Alex’s birthday (20 years old). Good time for all of us.

The following day we were hung over and spend the day in recovery :)

Pirongia 15 Nov

On a conquis le mont Pirongia cette fois ci et feté l'anniversaire de notre colloc, Alex. Un petit weekend tranquille ;) Dommage qu'on a pas pu deguster le fameux hangi!

(J + 64) Taranaki - New Plymouth

Le blog continue... et cette fois-ci c'est la découverte de la ville de New Plymouth (Taranaki). Le jour où on est parti, le samedi, il faisait super mauvais. Il a plu toute la journée, sans pitié. On n'a pas eu d’autre choix que de marcher dans la ville et de faire quelques magasins. L'expo d'art dans la galerie de Govett Brewster a été amusante avec les quelques tonnes de polystyrène transformées en chaines de tailles variées, attachées et qui parcouraient toutes les salles de la galerie de 2 étages. Ce n'était pas terrible, mais le soir ça allait mieux. Heureusement on a rencontré des jeunes assez sympas dans l'auberge où on était, et c'est avec eux qu'on a vu le match de rugby (match d'essai) entre l'Australie et les kiwis dans un bar.

Le lendemain, le temps a radicalement changé, vachement amélioré avec le ciel bleu. On a fait une randonnée sur le mont Egmont (ou Taranaki). On n'a pas atteint le sommet (2500m à peu près) vu qu'il est toujours couvert de neige et nous n'avions pas le matos pour continuer. Dommage!

Ensuite, on est parti visiter le point de vue de Paritutu Rock. C'est là que l'on peut observer le panorama de New Plymouth. C'est assez stupéfiant... la ville, la montagne, et la mer qui nous entourent.

Whitecliffs

La dernière visite de notre weekend se trouve un peu plus au nord de New Plymouth. C'était le « Whitecliffs Walkway ». C'est encore une plage avec du sable noir et des falaises tout au long de la côte. Apparemment les plages du côté ouest de l'ile nord sont couvertes de sables noirs alors que celles de la cote est sont couvertes de sables blancs.

This time it’s me apologizing for not giving any news. It’s been 3 weeks ago but still fresh in my memory! We wanted to go to New Plymouth to admire the Mt. Taranaki surrounded by the Tasman Sea.

A Maori legend tells that Te Maunga O Taranaki lived in the Central Plateau with the other Mountain Gods Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe. They were all in love with the beautiful Pihanga who looms Lake Taupo. The bold Tongariro seemed to win the heart of the beautiful. But when he’d been absent, Taranaki declared his love for her. So began a huge battle between the gods. Finally, Tongariro won and took place at the side of Pihanga.Eventhough Taranaki was ashamed, he dug himself up and moved in the land of the rising sun. While he’d moved, he dug the Wanganui River to pull himself apart from his enemy. One says that the mountain is covered of rains and fog when Taranaki cries for his lost love and wants to be hidden.

That’s enough of legend! On Saturday the weather was so bad and we only done some shopping and visited the art gallery. At the backpacker’s we met 2 Uruguayans and one German, very kind with whom we watched an all blacks rugby match and afterwards clubbing! It was nice talking English with these guys, it was really easy to speak with each other and I felt happy to be able to discuss with them.

The weather next day was the opposite of Saturday. We decided to climb the Mt. Taranaki but our peps were stopped by the snow at 1500m. Too bad! So, we went to have a scenery lookout from the Paritutu rock, a 153m high rock near to the seaside. We contemplate the view after a steep climbing

To conclude the day we went to the Whitecliffs where I took a swim and Alan took some beautiful (Alan: You did too) shots. Three hours after we were back in Hamilton!

J + 61 Obama est le nouveau président des USA

OK, félicitations Mr. Obama... je ne le connais pas franchement, lol. Aujourd'hui c’est le "jour des feux d'artifices" en Nouvelle Zélande où tout le monde peut acheter son f.a. et l’allumer. Nah, on n'en a pas acheté aujourd'hui.

Mt. Ruapehu

Excusez-moi pour le manque de news depuis deux semaines. Je vais commencer avec notre sortie de ski et snow sur le Mt. Ruapehu dans la région de Taupo. On est parti avec notre colloc, Alex qui fait du snow de temps en temps là bas. C'est assez loin de Hamilton vu que l'on est passé par Rotorua, et donc il a fallu passer par le lac Taupo. Vous comprenez peut être rien sans une carte géographique de NZ... donc voici la carte ci-dessous! Entre 4-5 heures de route (presque 400km aller seul). Evidemment, on a refait une soirée le samedi soir à Rotorua, pour la 2e fois! Comme lundi 27/11 était un jour férié... on a pu profiter d’un weekend prolongé.
