(J+36) Under the rain

Ruapane Viewpoint (700++m)

It was a baaaaaaad weekend. The first day we planned to reach the Pironghia’s summit. It was suppose to be a 4 hours walk… But we took the wrong path and walked 2 hours to reach, well… a car park! Nice. So after taking a power brunch, we tried to motivate ourselves to go back to OUR car park.

Afterwards, we decided to go to the Kiwi House in Otoharanga. We were actually glad to see a real kiwi, and other birds, ducks, lizards and… ducks.

The next day we started our journey at dawn to Kawhia. We’ve planned to go to Ocean Beach to find some so called hot springs. We were equipped with our shovels (bought it the day before for 7$ in Warehouse (where everyone gets a bargain!)) and a guide on how to reach the hot springs. We arrived at the beach and there were rain and wind and we didn’t find anything! Because of the weather we decided to go to Marokopa falls. One hour later we were trying to contemplate the falls under the rain and came back to the car 20mn later. Tthe car started but cannot maintain and stalled. So, we reached the nearest (big enough) town to find a mechanic. Obviously I can’t stop accelerating in the town! Funny but dangerous! Finally, we got our car “fixed” (temporarily). And we came back home because we didn’t have the mood to do anything else.

Marokopa & Ruapane 4-5 Oct

Bon, pas grande chose intéressante à raconter. Malheureusement on a eu un mauvais temps tout le weekend dernier. On a essayé d'escalader la montagne Pironghia (956m) mais on s'est trompé de chemin. Ça nous a fait une bonne balade de 3h++ ... L'autre moitié de la journée était consacrée à la visite de Kiwi Bird Farm dans la petite ville d'Otoharanga. Assez marrant de voir le kiwi (le seul). On a eu l'entrée gratos mais je ne te raconte pas...

Le lendemain (dimanche) on est parti tôt le matin pour aller à Ocean Beach, en espérant de trouver la source chaude de Te Puia mais en vain. Bouef... tous ça sous la pluie et le vent qui arrache la gueule. L'Ocean Beach était jolie avec son sable noir, ça peut être mieux avec un meilleur temps.

Marokopa Falls

On a vite décidé de partir voir les Marokopa Falls plutôt, à quelques 30km de Kawhia. Toujours sous la pluie. Et là, en partant la voiture commence à nous poser des problèmes. Le moteur démarre mais calle juste après. Pas le choix Pierrot a du conduire sans relâcher l'accélérateur à chaque changement de vitesse (bon il n'y a que "Drive" et "Reverse" sur la bagnole, lol) mais ça a été brutal. Bravo Pierrot, et on est obligé de retourner à Otoharanga afin de trouver un mécanicien. Dommage on avait pas d'outils pour la réparer.
